​A former Fine Gael councillor and hotelier has been charged with money laundering of more than €2.6m.

Frank Kilbride (69) appeared before Longford District Court last Tuesday following a long-running investigation by gardaí based in Cavan.

Mr Kilbride was released on bail after being charged with three separate money-laundering offences and is due to appear before the same court on ­December 5.

The defendant, of Aughakilmore, ­Ballinalee, Co Longford, is a well-known figure in the world of country music and has also appeared on national TV. He is a former presenter on a local ­radio station.
